Where they win
Where Claude is the stronger pick
Claude costs nothing to start. Free is $0, with chat on web, desktop and mobile, web search, files, code, memory and Artifacts. Grais starts free too, but only with 20 actions a week; paid entry is Core at $29 a month. Paid Claude is cheaper on the way in as well. Pro is $17 a month if you pay $200 up front, or $20 billed monthly. Max starts at $100. Anyone comparing on sticker price or on an unlimited-feeling free chat picks Claude.
It also runs almost everywhere: claude.com, desktop, iOS and Android, including the Free plan. Grais is a Chromium desktop extension with iOS on TestFlight and no Android product. On a phone, Claude wins outright today.
The capability list is not close. Paid Claude adds Claude Code, Design, Slides, Docs, Science, Projects, scheduled tasks and more models. Cowork is now just Claude, rolling out to Pro and Max. Grais does none of that work. For teams, standard seats are $20 a month billed annually or $25 monthly, with SSO and admin controls. Enterprise is $20 a seat plus API-rate usage. Grais publishes two individual plans and no admin or compliance tier.
The fact that actually overlaps Grais is Claude in Chrome. It is a first-party extension on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, listed on the Chrome Web Store as id fcoeoabgfenejglbffodgkkbkcdhcgfn. From a side panel it reads the page, clicks, types, fills forms and can run as a Cowork session on Max and Team, with Pro getting that rollout. Anthropic is blunt that this is risky even with safety classifiers. It is still the closest either large lab has come to sitting on the page you already have open.
The difference
What Grais does differently
Grais does one job: the reply. It runs as a browser extension on the conversation already open in front of you, across WhatsApp Web, Telegram Web, Instagram, LinkedIn and Tinder. It reads what is on screen, drafts the answer in your voice, and leaves it for review. The side panel is not that job. The side panel is a general browser agent driven by what you ask it to do on the page.
ChatGPT already got a short Claude aside on this hub. The split here is the Chrome extension versus conversation-native drafts. Claude in Chrome can summarise a tab, walk a site, and fill a form. Anthropic documents site knowledge for Slack, Gmail, Calendar, Docs and GitHub. It does not document per-contact memory of your WhatsApp, a record of what you promised a named person, or a send-trust level for one recipient. Calling the browser empty territory would be wrong. Calling Claude a messaging assistant would also be wrong.
Memory points at the other person. Claude keeps memory across your chats with Claude. Grais keeps memory per relationship: who said what, what was promised, what matters to that contact. The same person stays one relationship whether they wrote on WhatsApp, LinkedIn or Telegram.
Permission is granted per contact. Trust starts at review, moves to voice approval, and can reach known-safe autonomy, one relationship at a time. Claude in Chrome starts in "Automatically approve" and pauses when something needs you. That is a browser-action permission, not a per-person send ladder.
Two smaller gaps are worth naming. Claude in Chrome is Google Chrome only; Grais runs on Chrome, Brave, Edge and Arc. Claude's apps cover phones; Grais does not, beyond TestFlight. Core is $29 a month and Pro is $79, sharing the same agent, memory and public browser platforms, with Pro adding a higher reasoning ceiling and pre-access to iPhone and Mac.
Also worth knowing
Versus ChatGPT, in one sentence
Claude and ChatGPT are the same job: a destination assistant you open for writing, research, analysis and code. The Grais vs ChatGPT page covers that job. This page exists because Claude in Chrome is the closest first-party extension either lab ships, and folding it into a ChatGPT aside was no longer enough.

FAQ
Questions people actually ask
Can Claude in Chrome draft my WhatsApp replies?
Not as a messaging assistant. Claude in Chrome can read the open tab, click and fill forms from a side panel, on paid plans, in Google Chrome only. Anthropic documents it as a general browser agent, including Cowork sessions on some plans. It has no per-contact memory of your chats, no promise tracking, and no send-trust level for one recipient. Grais drafts in the open WhatsApp Web thread instead.
How much does Claude cost, and is there a free plan?
There is. Free is $0. Pro is $17 a month on annual billing, $200 up front, or $20 monthly. Max starts at $100 a month for 5x Pro usage. Team standard seats are $20 annually or $25 monthly. Enterprise is $20 a seat plus usage at API rates. Claude in Chrome is paid-plans only.
Is Claude a closer match to Grais than ChatGPT?
On surface, yes. Claude in Chrome is a first-party extension that reads pages from a side panel, nearer to where Grais sits than anything OpenAI documents as a messaging composer. It is still a general browser agent. The ChatGPT page already said that in passing. This page is the full version, without repeating that comparison.
Does Claude run in Brave or Edge?
The Claude in Chrome extension does not. Anthropic says it needs Google Chrome, and is not supported on other Chromium browsers or mobile. Grais runs on Chrome, Brave, Edge and Arc, still with no Firefox or Safari build. Claude the product also has web, desktop, iOS and Android apps that Grais does not match.
